Welcome to the S.A.I.L lab. SAIL lab means: Sehome Alternative Instructional Lab. This is a class that allows you to recover credits that you have missed and is based on showing competency in the subject area and pass the content concepts with an 80% or better rather than just “time” in class. This means that you have the opportunity to earn many credits in ONE class period and set your own learning pace! Here are the requirements for the SAIL lab.

This is an EXCELLENT opportunity to earn credit for failed classes without paying the $215 dollars and attending summer school. You are expected to make progress in the course in order to continue to be enrolled

I. Class policies:

  • You will be responsible for completing the requirements for the course(s) that for which you are gaining credit. You are expected to make up 1 credit (2 classes) in order to continue in the course.
  • You are expected to set goals for yourself, show progress on a daily basis, meet with the instructor for one-on-one teaching and review of materials as needed.
  • Please sit at every other computer. There will be a seating assignment and a progress report will be taken at the end of each day.
  • Permission is needed to use the restroom/water and printing.
  • Please do not use any electronics—MP3’s, I-Pods, cell phones, headphones, etc. (Calculators and instructional materials pertaining to your coursework are o.k.)
  • SAIL adheres to the 4 tardy policy (ASA after 4th tardy).
  • SAIL adheres to the 11 day Absence Policy (no credit).

II. RULES

  • In this class I expect you to:

  • Treat yourself and others with respect. Understand that all students are working on different class materials and what that looks like to maintain a quiet work environment.

2. Be on time to class and seated before the bell rings. TARDIES

  • Excused: A student must arrive to class with a note from teacher or office explaining and excusing reason for tardy. There will be NO CONSEQUENCE for an excused tardy.
  • Unexcused: A student will be counted tardy to class if they are not inside of the classroom by the time the bell has finished ringing. If the student arrives in class more than 15 minutes after the bell has run, they are no longer considered tardy but rather marked as absent.

3. Work on SAIL assignments ONLY and the computers are for SAIL work only.

4. Take care of classroom furniture, computers and supplies. Follow procedures for book checkouts and care for books. Do not write on desks or school property.

5. Not to bring food or drink to class. Water is okay.

The consequences for not following the expected behaviors are:

  • Warning, rule clarification and documentation.
  • 15 minute detention, parent contact and documentation.
  • 30 minute detention, parent contact and documentation.
  • Referral to assistant principal, parent contact and documentation.
  • Office referral for possible expulsion from class or school.

III. SUPPLIES NEEDED:

A. You will have a working folder in the lab to keep materials, papers, items that you are currently “in progress”.

B. Paper, binder, computer access to access NOVANET and/or on-line resources

C. AN “I CAN DO IT!” ATTITUDE, because it’s amazing what you can do when you set your mind to do something! Be here, be punctual and be ready to work!

I believe in you and am here to help you to achieve and be successful! I want you all to increase your knowledge and basic skills to achieve in college, the workplace and as a citizen! I also hope to provide you with opportunities to see stories of success as you progress and meet your goals this semester. This will be addressed in further detail throughout the course, but could involve opportunities to visit community resources, have guest speakers be a part of our learning and have community members partake in the learning that is happening for you here in the SAIL lab. I look forward to getting to know each of you this fall!
